4/4/2024 0 Comments Flightgear scenery forum![]() They cover all of the Great Lakes and two famous historical rail corridors, the old New York Central (NYC-Chicago, aka "the Rust Belt") on the American side, and the Windsor-Quebec City corridor on the Canadian side, as well as the northern part of the U.S. W080n40 and w090n40 contain most of the population of Canada and a big chunk of the U.S. If You have only one tile 16k x 16k around the depart airport, it is perfectly usable, FG will load tile on startup. Even though the northern half (north of about 75N) is mostly wilderness, w080n40 is still so intense that I usually have to build it in 100 1x1 deg pieces - I can sometimes build 5+ other buckets in the time it takes to build w080n40. I tested scenery with 4x4 16k tiles around Innsbruck, FG crashed, or lag was more than 10 seconds. There are big(ger) cities elsewhere in Canada and the U.S., but nothing comes close to the population density (and thus, road/railroad/built-up-area density) of these two buckets, because in Texas or California (for example), there's lots of wilderness around the cities and/or they follow the coast in a narrow strip, while in in the southern halves of w080n40 and w090n40 there is almost always a town or city in sight. To run FlightGear on old computers with bad OpenGL support, please take a look at this wiki article. Likewise, if you want to test a graphics card with FlightGear, try starting in one of the big cities I just listed. Im using Terrasync, only because Ive tried 3 times to use a direct download of the scenery folder and nothing seemed to work. If you're building any type of custom scenery for the Americas, WS2.0 or WS3.0, I recommended testing with these two. So far I have tried to fly from 3 airfields (two in France and one in the UK) and as things stand, FG doesnt seem to load any airfield buildings. Pittsburgh falls right on the dividing line between the two. I'm quite confused, is scenery downloaded by TerraSync newer/better than the v2.01 Bluray scenery I already have, or is the Terrain the same and the newer folders just populate the old terrain with models better? Could I use the Terrain and Object folders from the Blurays and fill in the rest via terrasync as I fly?Ĭhrisblobster Posts: 3 Joined: Tue 11:22 am Location: Christchurch, New Zealand Version: 2020.4.Working with OSM data and having built every 10x10 scenery area in the Americas at least once, I can confirm that the most-detailed (and hard-to-build) scenery buckets are w080n40 (New York City, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Ottawa, Buffalo, Newark, etc) and w090n40 (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, etc). I own the v2.01 World Scenery Bluray 4 disk package already, but the Scenery folder from that and the Scenery being downloaded by TerraSync appear to have different folder structures - in the Bluray set there are only Object and Terrain subfolders, but in the newly downloaded TerraSync folder there are a heap more subfolders - yet all the information I can find on and tells me the World Scenery is still v2.01 - if that were the case I'm surprised to see different subfolder structures downloaded by TerraSync. A completely new approach to scenery using landclass textures over a regular elevation mesh. Hi all, I've been away from FG for a long while, but have just decided to get back into it again - I just downloaded and installed FG 2019.1.1 on a Linux Mint 19.3 install, and have been using TerraSync (and now TerraMaster) to handle scenery.
